|TiVo Fall TV Survey: Americans Hooked on Crime Dramas and Still Devoted to Reality TV (Whether They Want to Admit It or Not)|

As the excitement of summer comes to an end, many Americans will seek comfort in "guilty pleasure" television returning in the form of Fall TV premieres. In a recent survey by TiVo, one quarter of Americans (26 percent) weren't embarrassed to admit they indulge in their guilty pleasure entertainment fix every day; however, nearly the same amount (21 percent) said they judge others on their TV choices. This panel of TiVo users is uniquely qualified to assess entertainment trends as they own the only device that gives instant access to not only Fall TV premieres, but past seasons of favorite shows, collections of a specific actor's work and the discovery of new shows based on current preferences.
What shows will America be indulging in, and scoffing at, this season? TiVo's Fall TV survey found that nearly one third (29 percent) of respondents say they'll be tuning in to crime dramas, while 22 percent can't get enough reality TV. Interestingly, when asked what type of shows they consider a guilty pleasure, Americans again ranked tension-filled crime dramas as number one, while reality TV placed third (sitcoms took the number two spot). The popularity of these genres continues to rise, and while viewers might be embarrassed to admit just how often they tune in, they show no signs of stopping according to TiVo's continued insight into this trend.
"TiVo's Fall TV survey confirmed our instincts that many TV lovers no longer hide their passion for what they consider a guilty pleasure show," said Tara Maitra, SVP, GM Content & Media Sales for TiVo. -- TV viewers are most looking forward to watching ABC's remake of the late '70s classic "Charlie's Angels" -- NBC's "Prime Suspect" and CBS' "Person of Interest" tied for the second most anticipated new TV show this fall

-- Given Americans' love of crime dramas, it's no surprise that CBS' "NCIS" is the returning drama that they're most looking forward to this fall -- Respondents can't wait to laugh along with the cast of ABC's "Modern Family," the most highly anticipated returning comedy -- Perhaps to no one's surprise, twice as many women than men will be rushing home to catch "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC

-- When asked what comedy star they're most looking forward to watching this fall, 35 percent of respondents chose Ashton Kutcher from CBS' "Two And A Half Men" -- Will Arnett from NBC's "Up All Night" placed a distant second, receiving 11 percent of the votes
